HOUSE BROOKLYN

ARCHITECTURE AND INTERIOR

House Brooklyn required the complete renovation of an existing house in Pretoria.  A series of gravel courtyards have replaced paved surfaces, with slatted timber gates and olive trees to welcome you into this family home.

What were previously narrow and dark spaces have been transformed into a light-filled home.  The layout of the home was changed, with the kitchen now central to the living areas, having been moved away from its traditional position at the back of the house.  The kitchen opens out onto a sunny courtyard which is covered by a pergola.  This entertainment area is a main focal point of the home and overlooks the swimming pool.  A series of folding stacking doors lead out from the living rooms onto the garden.  Part of the ceiling in the living rooms was removed to expose the trusses, turning a previously restricted area into a spacious interior.

The bedrooms and bathrooms were updated too, with a palette of patterns and colours that compliment the contemporary feel of the home.  All of the new finishes throughout the home were chosen together to provide a comfortable, warm family home.
