DIE UITSIG

ARCHITECTURE AND INTERIOR

The project began with an unfortunate house that had been subjected to a series of bad alterations and required an extensive renovation to upgrade it into a contemporary family home.   A contemporary linear aesthetic was used that is mindful of the Highveld climate and exceptional views from the site.

The facades are composed of horizontal layers with an alternating rhythm of glass and timber panels, as well as a green wall that softens the street facade.  The house ‘lives out’ towards the north, with large sliding doors opening the main living rooms and bedrooms onto the landscaped garden and pool below.  An established Brazilian pepper tree was retained as an important feature of the landscape.  The finishes and colour scheme were chosen to compliment the contemporary feel of the home.

This project was shortlisted as a finalist in the 2023 PIA / SAIA Awards.
