THE RIDGE

ARCHITECTURE AND INTERIOR

The Ridge House is a contemporary, luxury family home that faces onto a green open space on two sides of the property.  This untouched veld is home to many small mammals and birds, making the stand unique.  The facades of the design make use of strong horizontal lines and bold massing, with off-shutter concrete and timber screens breaking the forms.

External sliding doors and large sections of glass puncture the structure and open it up onto the garden and green area.  The street elevation and entrance is dominated by a large off-shutter wall and adjacent cantilevered of the house over the driveway.  A series of staggered walls provide privacy from the street, giving little away of the open glass facades and green area on the other side of the property. To compliment the green area an indigenous roof garden and baobab tree were planted. The finishes and colour scheme were chosen to compliment the contemporary feel of the home.

This project was shortlisted as a finalist in the 2023 PIA / SAIA Awards.
